Decision Made!

OK, so the insurance company thought I should still get my car repaired. However, I think the deer was really trying to tell me to get a new car. I spent the bulk of today at Honda City driving a couple of 2008 CR-V's (hey, I'm sticking with something that served me well!) and sealing the deal on the one I really wanted. Since my last car got me to almost 11 years, and would have taken me even farther if not for Bambi, I decided that I wanted to get this car with some of the "extras" that I've always wanted. If I'm going to drive this one another 10 years, it's gonna be one I really want to drive! I'll also have a larger downpayment than I would have if I had just traded the old car in a year ago (which I did check out then) thanks to the insurance check and the little bit of trade-in I'll still be getting from the dealer.

So I am buying the nicest car I have ever owned. I went with a glacier blue 2008 Honda CR-V EX-L.... lots of letters, but basically the last part means I get a sunroof, leather wrapped steering wheel, heated leather seats, satellite radio, 6-disc CD changer, and some other little things that just make it worth the extra $84/month from the cheapest basic model that I would have gone with. By getting a 2008 model, that saves me some money, and I'm going with 2 wheel drive instead of 4 - also less expensive. It will be quite a change from my old car that had only a plain ol' am/fm radio and well-worn and stained cloth seats.

It took a little convincing from my secretary (who was consulted for a 2nd opinion when they let me take the car for an hour to fall in love with it some more,) but I finally decided I deserved the extras and would definitely get all I could out of it. Dad has taught me well that you drive a car for 10 years before getting a new one (although I have not been able to accomplish the "pay for it with cash" lesson that he tried to impart to me.)

I am soooo excited! They have a check from me for some additional downpayment I'm paying, but I won't be picking it up until that insurance check comes to cover the rest - hopefully by Wednesday. Hurry up pleeeeease, Ms Postwoman!
